Who Are The Executives?

Shari Redstone took the helm of Paramount Global from her father, Sumner Redstone (a media titan in his day).

In the 1940s, Sumner convinced his father to change his surname from Rothstein to Redstone, which, to me, says something of their morals (talk about a weird timing to urge a change- but apparently there was also a gangster named Arnold Rothstein that they didn't want attributed, and also to avoid anti-semitism).

To say Shari has control over Paramount is an understatement.

The family holding company (National Amusement) only holds ~10% of the Paramount total stock, but controls 80% of the voting power.

As you may be familiar, Shari is currently trying to sell Paramount Global to Sundance media (which is run by Oracle founder Larry Ellison's son, David Ellison)

Her sale of Paramount is somewhat forced due to Shari's financial pressure. Shari Redstone has faced notable financial pressures in recent years, primarily through her ownership of National Amusements, the holding company controlling Paramount. Here’s a breakdown:

  • In February 2023, National Amusements sold off real-estate assets to cover a $40 million debt payment  .

  • More dramatically, in November 2024, Shari paid off a $186 million loan owed by National Amusements—with funds reportedly sourced from Oracle co‑founder Larry Ellison—well ahead of its May 2025 due date (bearing ~11.5% interest)  .

  • These measures came amid wider debt restructuring efforts with lenders to alleviate a “heightened financial risk”

So, in the context of the sale of Paramount, it's easy to say that this is a pressured sale.

Shari Redstone, through National Amusements, has taken extraordinary steps—asset sales, multi-million-dollar payments, and loan restructuring—to navigate a debt burden reaching into the hundreds of millions. This financial strain has been a key factor behind her push for the Skydance merger to restore stability and debt relief.
