Broadcom the company that bridges hardware and software?

Broadcom is a semi-conductor company that has a software arm of the company that complements its semi-conductor arm of the business.

Their hardware solutions are

• Pre-packaged solutions for networking. Instead of designing a circuit that needs to do signal processing on your own processer you can purchase a Broadcom chip that gives you the off the shelf and consistent functionality.

• Opposed to you giving it to an untamed engineer who gives you a convoluted solution

Their software solutions are

• Vmware (Hyper-Visor) allows for you to have more than one operating systems on 1 PC

• Cyber Security Software makes sense they are in the network and switching space

• The rest is just other useful software tools for the networking space

The big W for Broadcom is they do not have their own chip fabs and they have solutions that scale with modern internet infrastructure. Their moat is vast but my biggest fear is China who has enough cash reserves to crush a lot of moats. PCC Airfoils had vacuum furnaces and unique infrastructure that prevented any dumping attempts made by competitors they were simply the best in the bizz. The Space Shuttle, US Military, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin all knew this and China could not replicate this. However, with China`s increasing tenacity I worry that such a company would need to be constantly watched.
