How Do They Make Money?

DEXCOM is a "medical device company primarily focused on the design, development and commercialization of continuous glucose monitoring, or CGM, systems for the management of diabetes and metabolic health by patients, care givers, and clinicians around the world."

Basically, they make constant glucose monitors (those small plastic patches you may have seen people wearing on their upper arm/belly) that automatically track glucose levels and sends reading to the wearer so they can see their sugar levels at any time without the need for the classic fingertip prick. Some of their CGMs are "integrated" and can be used with compatible medical devices and interfaces, such as automated insulin delivery systems and insulin pumps, to keep the wearer in range and avoid “highs” and “lows.”

  • Products

    • DEXCOM G7: provides real-time glucose readings sent automatically to compatible smart devices without the need for fingertip pricking or scanning.

      • includes customizable alerts for high or low glucose levels and allows users to share data with up to 10 followers

      • Availability: Global

    • Dexcom ONE+ (2024): a simpler, more affordable option without pump integration/advanced features

      • Availability: Europe, Middle East, Australia

    • STELO by DEXCOM (2024): targeted for Type 2 diabetes or prediabetes without the need for insulin and provides real-time glucose insights to help understand how lifestyle factors (diet, exercise, sleep) affect glucose levels

      • Recent developments: Dexcom announced a partnership with Oura (the smart ring) to integrate glucose monitoring into Oura’s tracking.
