An up and coming competitor to Broadcom?

Nokia known for their Nokia phones. Nokia has always had a strong presence in the camera industry and they have their own FABs to make their own Photonic semi-conductors (sensors that go into cameras.) With that being said there was some interesting movements in this company.

In early in 2025 they purchased Infinera which added to internal semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, adding established fabrication sites.

Infinera is a leading provider of innovative, open optical networking solutions and high-performance, indium phosphide-based photonic integrated circuits (PICs).

Now why is all of this important? Well like like in the power semi-conductor industry AI is not playing nice with current supply chains. Nor is it playing well with current networking equipment sure hobbyists can make their own small rigs but AI has different NODES all interconnected. This means that the next big thing may not be the AI chips themselves but the chips that allow the work horses to communicate.
