Mobileye’s Related Party Transaction

If you don’t know Mobileye, they are a self-driving car research firm that were acquired in 2017, and then spunoff by Intel in October 2022. Not only is Mobileye not focusing on their autonomous driving solutions with this acquisition, but it’s a related party transaction (meaning some family are employees there). I don’t want to say this is a bad move, but it feels like Mobileye is just trying to catch some market attention without progressing their core business.

Anyway, the short of it is, I don’t trust a company that isn’t sticking to what it thought was its core business. Maybe this robotics company becomes their new focus, but given all their sunk cost into self-driving solutions, I worry about them throwing in the towel. They do have a valuable portfolio of patents at least. 🤷
