San Francisco suing 10 food companies
San Francisco recently filed a major lawsuit against 10 major ultra-processed food (UPF) manufacturers, including Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Nestle, General Mills, Kellogg, Kraft Heinz, Mondelez, Mars Inc., ConAgra Brands, and Post Holdings, alleging these companies engineered addictive, unhealthy foods contributing to a public health crisis and significant healthcare costs, using deceptive marketing similar to tobacco companies. The suit, filed by City Attorney David Chiu, seeks penalties and changes to marketing practices to recoup costs and protect residents from diseases like diabetes and cancer linked to UPFs.
