Originally organized as Caterpillar Tractor Co. in 1925 in California, today CAT has way more than just tractors and is the world's leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines, and diesel-electric locomotives.

They have three primary segments, but also offer financial products (i.e. loans, leases, and insurance)

• Construction Industries (supporting customers using machinery in infrastructure and building construction applications)

• Resource Industries (supporting customers using machinery in mining, heavy construction, quarry, and aggregates)

• Energy & Transportation (supports customers in oil and gas, power generation, marine, rail, and industrial applications, including Caterpillar machines)
