Mr. Tan Ping Yeow, also known as Anthony, is a Co-Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of Grab Holdings Limited since 2012 and also serves as its Chairman. By focusing on a hyperlocal business strategy and building strategic partnerships, Mr Tan and his team transformed Grab from a taxi booking app to the leading superapp platform in Southeast Asia, providing everyday services that matter to consumers. Grab today offers a wide range of on-demand services in the region, including mobility, food, package and grocery delivery services, mobile payments, and financial services.
He was also awarded the Nikkei Asia Prize in 2020. Under Anthony’s leadership, Grab has also received global recognition for its innovation and impact in the region, including ranking second on Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies in 2019, being on CNBC’s Disruptor 50 list for the last four years consecutively, and making Fortune’s Change the World list in 2020. Mr. Tan received an MBA from Harvard Business School in 2011 and a B.A. with honors in economics and public policy from the University of Chicago in 2004.
As our superapp serves users in over 700 cities across Southeast Asia, our technology systems are designed to be scalable, yet flexible enough to be hyperlocal. With millions of transactions taking place on our platform every day, our technology aims to reliably deliver a seamless and hyperlocal experience. Furthermore, our experiences take into account languages and other local variations specific to countries and cities across Southeast Asia. For example, the Grab app includes a secure chat with automatic translation between our driver-partners and our consumers (GrabChat).
Artificial intelligence. The volume and frequency of data that we process through our platform each and every day provides valuable insights on consumption patterns and consumer behavior in Southeast Asia. We bring this data together with deep artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities to deliver intelligent, personalized experiences and help solve problems in the region such as fraud. For example, our technology enables us to provide a predictive ride recommendation, so that a ride can be booked with one tap. We use computer vision to detect, identify and flag unclear images submitted by our merchant-partners. We also use machine learning, paired with GPS data from our driver-partners, to detect potentially unmapped roads.
