If this is true, I must give credit where credit is due.

According to an X post from Elon Musk, he said that next year he will give one of his SpaceX shares to every kid in America.

I need to say this as plainly as I can: I love this.

Getting kids started early at investing will show them, first-hand, the power of compound interest.

We as Flankers know the power of compound interest is vast (I wanted to say, "immeasurable", but it is quite literally measurable...)

But we also know Elon doesn't always deliver on his promises, or if he does, it was a bit of an unexpected faustian bargain

So let's look at the details, lest I write a puff piece that should've instead been a punch piece. (I'm proud of that joke)

What's it worth... really?

So first, what’s one share actually worth? SpaceX closed around $150 before earnings. There are about 73 million kids under 18 in America, so if Elon means every kid, that’s roughly $11 billion of stock (my math).

That sounds like a lot until you realize it’s about 1.5% of his SpaceX shares.

And he's been outmatched by the Billionaires who helped usher in the Trump accounts (which I think is a GREAT program - I still need to enroll my newborn son)

Michael and Susan Dell pledged more than $6 billion, which would equate to $250 for every kid under 10...

The Dells

Back in July, SpaceX’s own president, Gwynne Shotwell, gave one share each to more than 2 million kids, mostly lower-income families in Texas. That was about a fifth of her shares. She went first, and nobody talked about it. (Credit where credit is due, part 2?)

Oh, and of course this is a super tax advantaged...

When you give away stock instead of selling it, you never pay capital gains tax on it. it’s still a gift. But it’s a very efficient gift.

But, aren't you bearish on SpaceX

Honestly, that's super fair. I made a lot of content (one short got over 1M views!)

Well, it’s not really the company. I believe the company’s long-term prospects are actually really good. They’re unmatched in their ability to do space hauling, and Starlink is an amazing product with a first-mover advantage.

It's the valuation.
